Win Money For Saying "Thank You" In Favorfloat Gratitude Message Competition

By Christy Flom on March 1, 2015

Calling all college students who have never thanked or even thought about thanking their parents, friends or loved ones for all of the amazing things they have done for you over the years!

If you’re like me, remembering to thank your parents for some tuition money, free laundry over school breaks and life advice when dropping out to work at McDonald’s seems like a dream come true, is often forgotten or pushed to the side.

Even getting the chance to tell my best friends thanks for being awesome can be taken for granted because I assume we will always be in each other’s lives, with time for soppy expressions of gratitude later in life.

A recent press release has unveiled a cash-prize competition on Favorfloat.com, where students can enter a creative message of gratitude to whomever has made an impact on their life.

To start, students submit a gratitude message with their email address to the site. After submitting a message, he/she must then vote for his/her message plus 10 other messages that he/she believes are the most creative, according to the press release.

“At the end of each quarter, the 100 gratitude messages with the highest votes will automatically be selected for a final round of voting,” said Contest IT Director, Ricky Wunderlich. “The 20 messages that receive the most votes will be sent to 21 judges, who will each cast one vote to select the grand winner, who will receive first prize.”

Even more incentive to participate is that prizes will be awarded to all finalists and second and third-place message writers, too.

So, students will be not only thanking the people they care the most about in this world, but also they could win BIG amounts of money (think in the thousands) by participating in the competition.

Barry Emmanuel, a student at North Central Seminary in Minneapolis wrote a message to his parents, saying he had never thought of doing something like this before since he believed all of the things his parents had done for him were obligatory tasks of parents.

“Honestly, I didn’t do it for the prize money,” Emmanuel said. “I just felt bad about how selfish I had been, but I hope my gratitude message wins something.”

Today it is common courtesy to say thank you to people who hold the door for you, help you with a task, or aid you in a homework assignment but a meaningful thank you can be far and few to find.

Chairman of Favorfloat Corporation, Philip Legede, highlighted how saying thank you has become part of internalized proper etiquette, with seldom people actually understanding the purpose behind these words.

“The capacity to experience gratitude means that we’re extending attention beyond ourselves to perceive what someone has given or done for us,” Legede said. “Rather than take these precious gifts for granted, gratitude signals an appreciation for their generously extending attention beyond themselves and into our world.

Legede continued in the press release stating how Favorfloat is trying to promote gratitude as a “learned behavior” to decrease narcissistic behavior among youth, citing a 2004 article from The Journal of Youth and Adolescence Research that suggests narcissistic features can lead to aggression in adults.

Looking at the whole picture, saying thank you is more than just saying two simple words and this contest aims to help the youth of today realize how important gratitude is in our world today.

Students interested in learning about the competition should visit www.favorfloat.com and click on the “Play Gratitude Prize” tab to submit their messages of gratitude.
