UPDATE 4:51pm: UCF Police tweeted a little while ago that they are clearing the library and hope to have it open in the near future. They also confirmed that the threat was an armed woman.
According to many UCF students, social media posts, and the University of Central Florida alert system, there is an armed person in or near the central campus library.
Around four o clock, students began posting to their social media accounts that they had heard information of an armed person in the University of Central Florida campus library.
A Facebook status from an unconfirmed individual claiming to be in the library reads, “Well some middle eastern girl started chanting and pulled a gun out in theucf library. Schools on lock down. Police everywhere…”
The alert read: “UCF ALERT**UCF ALERT* POSSIBLE MIDDLE EASTERN GUN MAN/WOMAN IN UCF MAIN CAMPUS LIBRARY. AVOID THE AREA!” and was sent at 3:53pm to students phones and emails.
The campus police are investigating the armed person and have tweeted, “UCFPD responding to Library reference person with a gun. Please avoid area.”
There are no current reports of shots fired or any injuries.
UCF students are advised to remain indoors and stay safe as police handle the developing situation.
